John Bell founded Shred-Tech in 1977 and grew the company to become a global leader in recycling technology, manufacturing and marketing industrial shredding equipment for materials such as tires and municipal waste. Under his leadership, Shred-Tech developed the mobile document shredder – and began a new industry in North America. In 1995, John sold Shred-Tech to a NYSE company.

After the purchase Polymer Technologies in 1996, under the leadership of John Bell, Polymer grew from a $7 million injection moulding company to $125 million tier two auto parts manufacturer with seven manufacturing locations in four countries and over 1,000 employees. Polymer was also recognized as one of Canada’s 50 Best managed companies for four years. In 2005, the company was sold to two private equity companies.

Bell served as acting CEO while recruiting a new senior management team. ATS Automation Tooling Systems has 24 global manufacturing facilities, 4,000 employees and $900 million in sales.
